RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT

HOW TO PLAY:

Step 1

Choose one player to be the leader or "Red Light". The leader should stand about 10-15 yards from the other players.

 

Step 2

The players (dog/human teams) should be lined up across from the leader leaving as much space between teams as you need in order to insure safety. The goal is to be the first team to pass by Red Light but you can move only when he says "Green Light."

 

Step 3

To begin play, Red Light turns his back, closes his eyes and yells "Green Light!" Teams then walk with a loose leash towards him until he yells "Red Light 1-2-3!" and then turns around . The instant the players hear "Red Light 1-2-3!" they must stop moving and have their dog sit. Anyone Red Light sees whose dog is not sitting when he turns around must return to the starting line.

 

Step 4

This sequence is repeated until a player crosses over the line that Red Light is standing on when his back is turned. This player wins and becomes the next person to be Red Light.

 

Hints for Successful Playing:

- Demonstrate a practice run with one team before officially starting the game

- If space is an issue, divide the class in half and have one half play at a time

Depending on the skill level of the class, give more time for the teams to get their dogs to sit by saying Red Light 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi; or saying Red Light 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10
